Fondue is a Swiss community bowl on the table in a clay pot (pot) with a small burner (boiler). The word from the French verb Fondra (melt) the past participle is derived fondu (melted). Diners use forks to pieces of food (usually bread) in the semi-liquid hot sauce (usually a mix of cheese) dives. Heat is supplied by a wick, or gel alcohol burner or a candle. While cheese fondue is the best known, there are other pot and dipping ingredients.
